Returning From Captivity

Ezra 1-6
Bookmark and Share
With the book of Ezra, we move forward 70 years into Israel's history as it had been that long since the Southern Kingdom had been taken captive by the Babylonians. The date is 536 BC and the first of many waves of repatriation that send the captive Jews back into their homeland. The emphasis of the book is the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem under the leadership of Ezra, a priest who had also lived in Babylon. However, the first six chapters of this book and the chapters in this study cover the years of 536 - 516 BC. Ezra, the author of this book, does not appear until chapter seven.
